KAIOTE water metering pilot in Malindi. (KAIOTE network in green)
KAIOTE has developed a modular and autonomous system for water meter reading, billing and payments that is currently being piloted at Malindi Water and Sewerage Company in Kenya. The system comprises of wireless data collection modules set up on the clients’ water distribution network to collect water consumption data which is then sent over the KAIOTE physical network. The data is in turn transmitted to KAIOTE servers that format the data to the open metering specification (OMS), where certain information is extracted and compiled to a functional form for the client’s use. This system allows for readings to be collected hourly or daily depending on client’s preference. Analytics include, calculating consumption and the equivalent spend, communicating the same to the clients (billing) and providing a payment option (mobile money) for settling bills.
